Happy New Year to everyone! Though we have a bit of a rough start, and a bit of misunderstanding. Why not start with an anime that has a lot misunderstandings from top to bottom? You’re going to keep on laughing on the jokes even in the English dub. That’s right, it’s Gamers! Grab your consoles, games, and your waifus because it’s going to be a bumpy ride!
Since this is a comedy/romance/slice of life anime, you can expect the animation to be simple but it’s not. What really sold me is the reactions of each of the characters in different situations. You can see all of it in the hot spring episode. Though full of fan service, you can’t deny how perfect their reactions are when talking about DLCs.
What I like about the animation style is that they can make everything goofy in an instant. Like when Aguri caught Tasuku with Karen and Chiaki together. She was bawling her eyes out because her middle school friends was making fun of the Gamer’s meet-up and then suddenly, we are given a hilarious chase sequence where the girls are verbally assaulting Tasuku.
Where do I begin with this?!?! Whether sub or dub, both versions really hit their marks when it comes to certain jokes. Though in the dub, there are slight difference from the original, it still hits its mark where you can’t stop laughing on how funny it is.
What I like about voice acting of both versions is that how relax they are when reading their lines. I can just imagine how hard it is to keep your composure when reading each line. I recommend watching both versions and judge it for yourself. Because I really can’t say which one is better because both versions are really good.
I think the composer for this anime had fun making the music. You can really feel each BGM really blends with the atmosphere. From your classic school theme to the more obscure ones. Not really that obscure, moving on.
I just have to ask, you sing along with the Opening theme every time it plays, right? Well not gonna lie, I’m one of those people who sings along to the OST of anime. I’m saying this because that’s how catchy the Opening theme is. The slow to medium transition really gives it a nice beat. And I just love how many video game references they put in it as well. You’ll just have to watch it to find out.
Lastly, the Ending theme. It just reflex the whole anime in general. I know I’m being lazy here, but that’s just how it is. It shows three heroines flying away chasing the 2 heroes, that’s somehow got pixelated. Take your minds out of the gutter, you pervs. It’s their whole body- I’m just making worst.
If you like solving mysteries, this anime is not for you. Seriously, it has a lot of misunderstandings and misdirections that you’re just going to ask yourself “why?”. And I think that’s what made this anime hilarious. You think you know what’s going to happen next, it’ll just give you an uppercut to nope’s ville.
Believe me, I have watched this anime in my spare time and it still hits me. No matter how obscure a certain scene is, you just can’t help but laugh. What made it better is the chemistry. It’s really hard to make something like this and not turn it into a pure romance anime. If it did, I think it will turn into something not as great. But I digress. The author really made something is actually unique on it’s own. It will it be hard to top that. For me at least.
Gamers! is basically “Misunderstanding, the anime”. No matter how many times I watch this, the punchlines just keeps on hitting me. Though there are a few hay-makers here and there, so you better watch out for those. I definitely recommend this one for those who wants to start watching anime. It’s easy to follow, sometimes, and fun to watch.
